We are pleased to announce the achievement of Hassan E. Ganem, who has completed his master's degree in water sciences and achieved first-author publication in a leading scientific journal. His work, titled "Optimization of phosphorus removal from agro-wastewater by iron desalinization treatment residue (Fe-DTR)," presents innovative research on utilizing iron sludge from seawater desalination plants for phosphorus adsorption from agricultural wastewater.
This study, carried out at the environmental hydro-geochemistry laboratory of the Migal Research Institute under the guidance of Prof. Prof. Michael (Iggy) Litaor and Dr. Iris Zohar, explores the efficiency of iron-based sludge in binding phosphorus from livestock effluents. By examining variables such as solid-liquid ratio, grain size, pH, and temperature, Hassan developed an optimal method for phosphorus recovery, contributing to sustainable agriculture and the principles of a circular economy.
Currently, Hassan is finalizing a second article focused on the conditions affecting the release and availability of phosphorus from treated sludge, furthering our understanding of nutrient recycling in agricultural systems.
